Sakura
Sunday 18th June 2017 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
FreeMyriam San Marco
Told in a series of dramatised poems and prose from the perspective of a tree who observes, ’Sakura’ is the story of a boy and a girl falling in love. Both struggling with traumatic events from their past, their relationship is birthed around the secrets that they keep and the words they don’t say to each other but tell the tree that they trust instead. We watch as their hearts are poured out across the void between dreaming and reality, awe and truth, love and delusion. The show will will followed by a Q&A with Myriam San Marco. She is seeking reaction and feedback on the narrative and performance to aid her build a Kabuki inspired performance next year which will include music and dancers.
Once upon a time, a boy met a girl, or a girl met a boy and fell in love with him, or did he fall in love with her?
Most stories start like this. A face. Eyes touching eyes. A few shy smiles.
But there is the way skin can smell after bodies spent all day running in the forest and the way ozone presses down on blades of grass before a storm and the way the wind can crack even stones. And there is the iron tang of blood. Sakura is my name. I’m the tree who listened.
