Poetry from the Fens
Saturday 17th June 2017 @ 3:05 pm - 4:05 pm
FreeElaine Ewart, Poppy Kleiser, Leanne Moden
The wild Cambridgeshire Fens are teeming with surprising stories, if only you know where to look. Join our three former Fenland Poet Laureates, Elaine Ewart, Poppy Kleiser and Leanne Moden, as they perform poems from the flatlands, taking inspiration from the history, landscape and characters of this unique part of the UK. Framed by big skies and deep ditches, this show looks beyond the surface to get an insider’s perspective on the Fens.
In 2011, the Fenland Poet Laureate Awards were created to celebrate poetry in the rural communities of North and East Cambridgeshire, West Norfolk, and South Lincolnshire. The Fenland Poet Laureate Programme has since spawned six poet laureates, a series of regular open mic nights, a quarterly magazine, and huge number of other events and workshops.
‘Poetry from the Fens’ is a showcase of writing from three of the most exciting poetic talents working in East Anglia today, and the complementary performances of these very different writers provide an excellent introduction to the world of Fenland Poetry.
This event is free, but donations are welcome.
